e-Commerce Yemen Sweeps Four Pan Arab Web Awards

The Pan Arab Web Awards , in association with Microsoft, MSN MENA and Business Software Alliance (BSA), the international association established by the software industry to promote a safe and legal digital world, has recently concluded its fourth edition at the Burj Al Arab Al Falak Ballroom in Dubai, honouring over 125 websites and interactive agencies from several categories. The 4th Pan Arab Web Awards has been established as a premiere platform to recognise excellence in web design, development skills and creativity in the Pan Arab Region.

"The fourth Pan Arab Web Awards competition was presented by the Web Awards Academy registered in January 2008. Web Awards Academy is dedicated to the creative, technical, and professional progress of the internet and interactive media," said Pierre Moukarzel, President of the Web Awards Program in the Arab region.

Moukarzel emphasised that it has been the Web Awards' mission to promote excellence in web development across the Arab World. He also said that the 2008 edition has received an unprecedented number of registrants and has expanded its reach across the region. "We had before representatives in Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Oman, UAE and Qatar. We expanded to welcome new representatives in Bahrain, Kuwait, Yemen and Saudi Arabia," said Moukarzel.

e-Commerce Yemen has gone home bearing an award of honour for President Ali Abdullah Saleh’ s website, a golden award for the Arabic portal of Hadhramaut Network , a silver award for the District of Tareem ’s web portal and a bronze award for the company’s website .
“We’re extremely honoured to receive the awards having being the first and only Yemeni company in the history of the awards to participate let alone to win”, Mr. Ahmed Baharoon, Managing Director of e-Commerce Yemen stated. “Our work have been out for less than two years, we have managed to become a respected and well organized firm and receiving the awards would boost our reputation in the Gulf and the entire MENA region as a reliable business partner”.

Mr. Adel Ghaithan, Art Director, expressed his happiness to accept the awards, considering them a reward for creativity, “We have always believed in ourselves and the path we took, we introduced new creative ways of design and programming to the business and committed ourselves to them even when we were told that the Yemeni market would not understand”, Mr. Ghaithan continued, “I think that we give the Yemeni market less credit than it deserves and the amount of support that we received even before we were nominated is a living proof”.

e-Commerce Yemen has also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Pan Arab Web Awards Academy to host the Yemen Web Awards, allowing winners to be final competitors with counterparts from other pan Arab countries, details are to be revealed soon.
